The Great Australian Pause

The Great Australian Pause is a political action that pushes for a breather for Australians and the economy.

Situation

As of 2023 with a housing crisis, weekly rents surging, interests rates reaching higher and higher levels and a skyrocketing cost of living, Australian’s are doing it tough.

The Albanese (Labor) government is insisting on increasing the migration rate to levels never seen. 300,000+ migrants every year with a major 700,000 migrants in one year.

For context, in one year Australia will now add a Newcastle amount of people (~322,000 as of 2016).

Reasoning

With inflation, rent and house prices rising and with government intervention (or lack thereof) worsening the situation, we are suggesting a ‘Pause’.

Most of this is simple supply and demand.

A pause of all immigration, including low-skill, high-skill and ‘essential workers’.

Similar to the Covid19 migration pause, this pause that will aim to get prices for housing, rentals and more down.

During this ‘pause’ we can retrain and educate our citizens using TAFE programs, adult education centres and libraries to improve worker skills and keep them employable.

Additionally, we can reevaluate our electrical consumption, conserve more water, add less to landfills and allow our schools, hospitals and important infrastructure to catch up.

Why Pause?

During the Covid19 pandemic between 2020-2022 Australia was effectively in a ‘paused’ state. What do we mean by this?

  • Migration levels were at their lowest level in decades (basically 0).
  • International students were not allowed to enter Australia to study.
  • Tourism and ‘AirBnBs’ was minimal or not-profitable.

The Australian economy and GDP was forced to perform without the assistance of external forces (migration, international students etc).

With a growing influx of migrants (300,000 – 700,000) every year there seems to be a lack of foresight in terms of infrastructure and other facets of Australian life. Where is the:

  • Housing?
  • Roads and Rail?
  • Public Transit?
  • Utilities?
    • Power?
    • Water?
    • Sewerage?
  • Jobs?
  • Hospital beds?
  • Social services?
  • Schools?
  • Landfills?
  • Supply chains
  • and more…?

Who benefits from unchecked migration levels?

There are a number of parties that need and want as many migrants as possible. These people are looking out for their own best interest rather than those of Australian citizens.

  • Big business seeking perpetual profits
  • Government trying to ‘fluff’ up GDP numbers
  • Government wanting a larger tax base
  • Those seeking demographic shifts
  • Those seeking to divide
  • and more…

Why isn’t the Government doing more?

As mentioned, the Albanese government appears to be ignoring the ever increasing cost of living, petrol prices, housing prices and insane rental increases.

Many of Labors key constituents (young Australians and migrants) are directly suffering, but where is Labor?

Labor instead is focusing on ‘The Voice to Parliament’ – a constitutional change that will bring ‘benefit’ for 3.2% of Australians.

This seems at odds with the current situation experienced by everyday Aussie’s and almost all Australian’s alike.

What is really going on?
